When Kaire was a child in Soviet occupied Estonia, she and her friends weren’t able to get their hands on a lot of what kids in other parts of the world take for granted. A chocolate bar wrapper was a treat to be savored because the smell of the candy remained long after it was gone. Kaire knew even then that she was going to travel the world. As soon as she could she moved to Tallinn, the Estonian capital, then to Sweden, then to the United States, and now to Abu Dhabi; taking trips to other parts of the world as often as possible.

Ed grew up in New England, in the United States. The world was unfathomably large, strange, chaotic, and unusual. Family driving trips to Florida with pecan stands, fireworks shops, truck stops, and the buzzing of insects and neon signs from the front door of a bargain priced motel were what started his need for travel. A surprise gift from his grandmother sending him on a school trip to Europe turned his interests outside of the U.S.

Edgey is a nickname that Ed gained while traveling to Brazil. A ‘d’ in Portuguese sounds more like a soft ‘g’ in English and since the name Ed doesn’t roll off of the tongue as well as Eddy, Ed became Edgey.

Since not too many people use the nickname and the domain name Edgeytravels.com was already purchased and available, it seemed like a good name for both Kaire and Ed to use. Besides, http://KaireAndEdAroundTheWorld.Com just seemed too long.

Why a web site? You don’t have one? If you don’t, you probably will soon. For us, the web site was originally a simple way for us to share photos with family and friends. The more we travel the more we take photos and the more we have something to say about the places we go. Also, we seem to move further away from everyone and gain new friends all the time. This web site is our attempt to keep up with those people most important to us.  By the way, we also Twitter, blog, Facebook, and Skype.
